Andrea Pirlo has backed his former team Juventus to beat Ajax in the Champions League quarter-finals and eventually win the trophy.
Juve fans are happy to have been given one of the kindest draws in the last-eight draws despite their giant-killing feat at the Bernabeu.
The draw is a repeat of the 1996 Champions League final where Juve ran away, winners and Pirlo is backing his former club to deliver.
“Ajax are a good draw. Physically Juve can destroy them,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.
Pirlo equally reckoned Man City pose a major threat to Juve’s Champions League aspirations compared to Barca, and that could be a potential tie if Guardiola’s men overcome Spurs.
“Juventus seem better than Barcelona, but [Manchester] City are dangerous. I already gave [Juve] a big chance of winning [the Champions League].
“That’s providing they convince themselves that it’s necessary to play with that rhythm and mentality from the first minute of every game [referring to the second leg against Atletico Madrid], which is what Juve didn’t do in Madrid.”
Ajax on the hand are optimistic of replicating the win against Madrid when they face the Italian giants with the likes of De Jong and Tagliaflico all waxing lyrically strong about their chances.
