Pochettino believes Madrid win proves Spurs can compete with the best

Tottenham’s manager was a happy man after his team outplayed the reigning champions at Wembley Stadium.

Mauricio Pochettino stated that Spurs’ win over Real Madrid in the Champions League has boosted the squad’s belief and confidence that they can go toe to toe with Europe’s elite.

The club from north London became Group H leaders and booked their spot in the last 16 with a memorable 3-1 victory over Real Madrid. Dele Alli scored a brace while Eriksen added another, making it the toughest loss Madrid have been through since 2008.

The surprising win came after yet another incredible performance from Tottenham in the Champions League after they drew 1-1 against Los Blancos at the Bernabéu, making Pochettino proud of his players.

“I’m very proud of my players and I congratulate them. I’m so pleased for Dele and our fans,” Pochettino told BT Sport.

Zinedine Zidane, Real Madrid

I don’t see Zidane finding a solution: Mijatovic

According to the former Real Madrid forward, Pedja Mijatovic, Los Blancos coach Zinedine Zidane will suffer a lot in this second era at the club.

“The victory is so important for us and the players. It’s a win over Real so it’s great for the club and fans.

“There’s a long way to go until the end of the season. What’s important is trying to achieve our challenge and target.

“Of course, this win gives us great belief for everyone and confidence. We are now in the next stage of the Champions League. But now it’s so important to compete against Crystal Palace [next weekend]. As a manager you can’t stop thinking.”

Spurs are currently three points clear on top of group H with 10 points in total and a goal difference of 7 while Madrid are placed second with 7 points in total and a goal difference of 3.
