Premier League CEO Richard Masters insists that the decision on Newcastle United’s takeover will “not be rushed or compromised.”
As with any take over of a professional football club in England, the process entails an investigation. The governing bodies conduct research into the credibility of the potential new owners.
Much has been made of the Saudi Arabian crown prince Mohammed bin Salman’s ties to human rights violations in his homeland.
While Masters gave no details as to the progress of any kind of update on the process he did insist that the Premier League would not be rushed and would ensure a proper and thorough job was done.
He told Sky Sports:
“I don’t think the timing is an issue here.”
“I don’t think that we have any specific views about when these things need to be done by.”
“What we need to ensure is that all the processes are followed properly and when the decision is made, it’s the right one.”
“The takeover of football clubs is… an entirely confidential process so I can’t say anything about it.”
Should the take over finally go through, it would surely shake up the who is who of richest football club owners.
