It is derby time in Istanbul, as Besiktas welcomes Galatasaray to the Vodafone Park stadium this weekend.
Two of the three greatest Turkish football clubs, Besiktas and Galatasaray square off in the ninth round of the 2019-20 Super Lig campaign.
Both sides have been dominating the domestic football scene and shared the last five league titles, with Galatasaray claiming the trophy in 2018 and 2019.
However, the giants faced trouble at the start of the new season, as they both sit outside of Super Lig’s top four.

The reigning champions have registered just three wins from the opening eight league games this term, the most recent one coming in their last outing (3-2 vs Sivasspor) over the previous weekend.
Besiktas are heading into the derby as the 13th-placed side on the table, having collected only nine points in the 2019-20 campaign so far. The Black and Whites played a goalless draw against Ankaragucu in the last round, the sixth game out of eight, they’ve failed to win in the new season.
Both clubs lost their European encounters midweek. Galatasaray suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Real Madrid on Tuesday night, while Besiktas noted their third consecutive Europa League defeat, losing 2-1 to Braga at their own ground two days ago.
The big derby is scheduled for Sunday evening, starting at 17:00 (CET).
The home side might be without the services of Gokan Gonul, Georges-Kevin N’Koudou and Dorukhan Tokoz, as they’ve all missed the games against Angaragucu and Braga with injury problems.
Colombian striker Radamel Falcao is the only confirmed absentee for the defending champions, while Mario Lemina will have to face a late fitness test on Sunday morning.
Good news for both coaches, Abdullah Avci and Fatih Terim is that they don’t have any fresh injury concerns ahead of the upcoming derby.
Besiktas have won just two of their 11 games across all competitions at the start of the 2019-20 campaign.
Galatasaray’s record is not much better, as they’ve registered three wins from 11 games (domestic and European) so far in the new season.
The home side has won the three points in the last four Super Lig meetings between Besiktas and Galatasaray.

The Black and Whites noted eight wins and two draws in their last 10 games they’ve hosted in the Turkish Championships. They suffered only two home defeats in the 2018-19 campaign.
Besiktas last kept a clean sheet at home in their last game, and have kept six clean sheets in their last 20 home games. The Yellow-Reds last failed to score away in the league the last time they played on the road and have missed the net in seven of their last 20 away league games.
Galatasaray opened the season with a 2-0 defeat at Denizlispor. They are unbeaten in the league since then, but managed to win only three of the following seven games.
