Raphael Guerreiro is no longer a target of Paris Saint-Germain after Leonardo chose not to pursue the Borussia Dortmund defender.
Raphael Guerreiro is set for another season at Borussia Dortmund after seeing his name linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.
After finally confirming Neymar’s desire to leave PSG this summer, the club’s sporting director, Leonardo took stock of the club’s plans in the summer transfer market.
Defensive sector is going to be a priority. While speaking to Parisian, he said that the team needs a defensive midfielder.
“We need a defensive midfielder and maybe a player to provide competition in the central defensive area. In attack, we have many options,” Leonardo said.
Recruiting a number 6 and a centre back is the clubs top priority.
While Thomas Menuier and Dagba are set for stays, there have been rumors surrounding the future of Raphael Guerreiro. The Portugal international has been heavily linked with a move to Parc des Princes but the club’s sporting director Michael Zorc says that the rumors are baseless.
“I was surprised to find out those rumors, those are untrue. There was never a discussion.”
However, it appears that Raphael Guerreiro was indeed getting glances from PSG.
As reported by France Football, PSG’s former sporting director, Antero Henrique was close to signing Raphael Guerreiro but his departure signalled the end of the club’s pursuit.
“Yes it was almost done with Antero. But the arrival of Leonardo has, for the moment, put a brake on negotiations. I believe that the club has other priorities,” said the source.
And with the signing of Ander Herrera and Pablo Sarabia, it appears that Leonardo is happy with what he has. Regardless, Raphael Guerreiro is the sort of full-back who could be a useful addition to any side.
He has been a success at BVB and might prove to be a great addition to PSG if they reignite their interest.
