PSG top TV revenue in France

PSG are set to make €60 million in broadcast revenue for the 2018/19 Ligue 1 campaign where they finished with yet another Championnat

It is becoming quite evident that PSG are a true force in France off and on the field. After dominating the French football scene for several years, the cash-laden capital outfit is set for another period of dominance.

According to L’Equipe, Les Parisiens are set to enjoy the lion’s share of TV revenue for the 2018/19 Ligue 1 campaign.

The French champions are set to pocket almost €60 million which is quite a hefty sum. In terms of performance on the field and outreach, PSG is France’s top sports brand domestically and globally.

This season, PSG received an additional € 19.44 million for their ranking over the last five seasons. In the last five years, PSG won the Championnat four times and finished second just once.

According to the Brazilian footballer, Neymar has many bridged to rebuild at Parc des Princes after his summer transfer saga turned sour.

It is however surprising that the capital club’s nearest rivals are Olympique de Marseille despite not enjoying the best of seasons. Nonetheless, Les Phoceens have a great support in France and in North Africa which gives them the edge.

Marseille are followed by Olympique Lyonnais and then Saint-Etienne who finished 4th in the league.

What is surprising and perhaps heartwarming is the fact that relegated outfits Guingamp and Caen also pocketed a decent amount. The two sides were also given relegation aid.

Compared to Ligue 2 where broadcasting rights are € 93.7 in total, Ligue 1 distributed roughly €602 million.

Quite clearly, the French football circuit is enjoying a great period at the moment with global audience being at an all-time high. And while a lot of criticism has been directed towards PSG, it is clear that the club’s acquisition by Qatari owners has done a lot of favors to Ligue 1.
