The former Manchester United man is out for up to one month with a calf injury.
Reports from beIN Sports Network are saying, Ander Herrera, suffered a calf strain during training.
This will come as a huge blow to PSG, with Ligue 1 only days away from kicking off.
The midfield dynamo only joined the Paris side this summer. He was released by United after failing to agree on terms on a contract extension.
He made his competitive debut for his new team in the Trophee des Champions game against Rennes. PSG ran out 2-1 winners.
PSG’s official statement on his situation. He will be out for three to four weeks according to club doctors.
While a payer of Herrera’s calibre is a significant loss to any team. The Parisiens are not short of quality reinforcements in the central midfield department. With the likes of Pablo Sarabia, Marco Verratti, Idrissa Gueye and Julian Draxler at their disposal.
The Spaniard’s last season at United was hampered by niggling injuries throughout the campaing., including hamstring and ankle injuries.
PSG coach Thomas Tuchel, will not be overly concerned, by the setback.
But should he require any further bolstering of his squad, the French transfer window does not close until September 2nd. Plus with the megabucks of President Nasser al-Khelaifi behind him, signing another player shouldn’t be a problem.
Tuchel’s biggest concern right now is hanging on to Brazilian wantaway superstar Neymar. Or at least if he goes, acquiring a suitable replacement to play in the attacking third of the field.
