Qatari forward Ali Afif has said his country will take the 2019 AFC Asian Cup home, as they take on South Korea tomorrow in the Quarterfinals.
Qatar and South Korea will face off tomorrow, as they are looking for a ticket to the Semifinals of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.
And for Qatari forward Ali Afif, the pre-match press conference was a perfect time to make a bold statement: that they will take the Asian Cup home.
“We know they are supporting us even they are not here,” he told The Peninsula Qatar.
“We got messages from Doha that they are supporting us and will try to repay them with our unstinting efforts. The whole squad will do so and we will celebrate together and go back to Doha with the Cup for them.”
“The players are very confident,” he added.
“But at the same time, we know it’s going to be very tough and have to be ready to produce a good performance.”
Qatar is still unbeaten in the competition, as they won all three of their matches in the Group Stage.
The Qatari team defeated Lebanon 2-0, then trashed North Korea 6-0 and beat Saudi Arabia 2-0.
In the Round of 16, they only needed one goal by Bassam Al-Rawi to beat Iraq and advance to the next round.
If Qatar wins against South Korea, the team will meet the winner of the United Arab Emirates and Australia match on January 29th at Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Having participated in ten occasions in the AFC Asian Cup, the best results for Qatar have been reaching the Quarterfinals in 2000, 2011, and now in 2019.
