Raheem Sterling is just slightly ahead of Sadio Mane right now in terms of abilities. Graeme Souness explains why he made that statement.
Graeme Souness has lauded praise on Raheem Sterling after his recent hat-trick against Brighton. He also added that the City man would be welcomed at any club in the world.
The England international made it 17 league goals for the season yesterday. He was the star of the game as Manchester City cruised to a comfortable 5-0 thrashing of Brighton.
Sterling has been in fine form since the resumption of football. He has scored six goals in the six games he has featured in over the past month.
After the match Sky Sports pundit Souness hailed the 25-year-old after his dominant performance.
“Sterling is the real deal. He would be welcomed anywhere in the world – Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich.” he said as quoted by the Mirror.
Souness went on to further make comparisons between the City man and Liverpool’s Sadio Mane.
The Senegalese forward has also been in top form this season and has scored 20 goals in all competitions compared to Sterling’s 27.
Former Liverpool player and manager Souness said out of the two he would pick the Englishman.
He added: “He’s younger than Mane. They’ve got similar qualities but Sterling is already at Mane’s level.”
“Mane is warrior and likewise any team would take him at the moment. Mane is up there at 28-years-old, Sterling is at 25 and there is still another three years before his peak years so I’d have him slightly ahead.”
Let’s leave Mane aside, Sterling has even brought in the same conversation with star duo Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. But is he worth all the hype he gets?
