The Croatian says his team is inspired by the desire Lionel Messi has shown to win the European tournament.
At the start of the 2018-2019 season, Lionel Messi was appointed Barcelona’s new captain.
And the Argentinean footballer talked to the Camp Nou and told the fans he wanted to bring the UEFA Champions League trophy back.
Which is why Ivan Rakitic has said this has inspired the team to win the tournament, as they face Liverpool tomorrow in the first leg of the Semifinal.
“Whenever our captain says something the rest of us follow,” Rakitic said to the AFP.
“Leo has been a La Liga champion 10 times in 15 years and of course, after seeing him lift the cup (on Saturday) with such happiness, that motivates everyone.”
“If Leo is happy to win every title, it makes us even more eager too. We know we’re Barca, we have to give everything and following the best player in history gives us more confidence to do that,” the Croatian added.
“We want to be in the final but we have to understand the last few years weren’t the best for us. We have to learn from that.”
Barcelona already won the 2018-2019 Spanish La Liga season and are set to play in the Copa del Rey Final.
