Ivan Rakitic insists remaining at Barcelona would be “perfect” for him, amid reported interest from Inter Milan.
The 30-year-old midfielder’s future at Camp Nou has been a growing topic of debate recently following Rakitc’s alleged failed attempts to convince the Barcelona board to hand him a contract extension.
Currently, Rakitic’s deal with the Blaugrana will expire in June 2021 and it seems unlikely he will be awarded with a fresh one given the club’s recent acquisitions in the last two transfer windows.
Barcelona are now turning to youth talent in order to build a new star-studded midfield with the likes of Arthur Melo, Frenkie De Jong and possibly Adrien Rabiot.
This has led to speculation over a surprise summer move to Inter this for Rakitic with sporting director Piero Ausilio recently refusing to deny their interest.
The Croatia international’s situation at Barcelona isn’t expected to be resolved until the end of the season with the Catalans keen to maintain their focus on their La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League campaigns.
But Rakitic has made it clear once more that his stance over staying at Catalonia hasn’t changed.
“Are you Italian?” Rakitic told DAZN.
“I like living in Spain. Unfortunately I can’t ask for another passport because I already have two, otherwise, I’d also ask for a Spanish one because I’m fine here and I’m happy.
“My family are happy here too and my daughters are doing well in Barcelona because we’re close to Seville. Therefore, staying here is perfect for me.”
Bayern Munich have also been credited with an interest in signing Rakitic this summer along with Juventus and Manchester United.
The Croatian playmaker played the full 90 minutes of Barcelona’s 3-0 Copa del Rey win over Real Madrid on Wednesday night and will likely start again for Ernesto Valverde’s side in the second Clasico in La Liga on Saturday.
