Sergio Ramos has described Barcelona’s Lionel Messi as “one of the greatest” as they prepare to face off in El Clasico.

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has nothing but respect for his opposition leader Lionel Messi. But he knows if he has a good or bad day in the upcoming El Clasico it can impact the final score.

Ramos and Messi are no strangers to each other. They are regulars when it comes to leading out their sides to battle in what is simply known as El Clasico.

As part of the build-up, La Liga asked Los Blancos captain Ramos what he thought of his opposite number. The Spanish international had to set their difference of team aside to pay homage to a player like Lionel Messi.

He said:

“I have huge respect for him.”

“I think he’s one of the greatest players in history and I have huge respect for him.”

Ramos hopes though that the Argentine is ff his game this weekend.

He added:

“I hope Sunday isn’t his day, that would mean we’ve done our job, and if on top of that we can get a good result even better.”

“I wish him all the best as a fellow professional but only as long as it doesn’t affect us negatively!”

“It’s hard, but he has my maximum respect, I think he’s one of the best.”
