Megan Rapinoe expressed her displeasure with President Donald Trump, urging others to also step up and take action against the White House.
Mega Rapinoe will not take her comments regarding the USA and president Donald Trump back. The 33-year-old recently received an answer from Trump, who said she was not to “disrespect our country”.
But, Rapinoe decided not to yield under Trump’s words. Even more, she refused to take back any comments she had made against him.
“I stand by the comments I made about not wanting to go to the White House with exception of the expletive,” she noted.
“My mom would be very upset about that.”
Calling other players to stand by her, Rapinoe got support from teammate Ali Krieger. On the other hand, there’s forward Alex Morgan who said she will not be joining the protest.
“I think obviously answering with a lot of passion, considering how much time and effort and pride we take in the platform that we have and using it for good. For leaving the game in a better place and hopefully the world in a better place. I don’t think that I would want to go.”
Moreover, Rapinoe explained she “would encourage my team-mates” to back her point of view and not be “co-opted by an administration that doesn’t feel the same way and fight for the same things we fight for,” as per BBC.
Rapinoe, who is openly gay, thinks of herself as a “walking protest”, as per an interview from earlier this year.
In support of the cause, Rapinoe also kneeled during the anthem together with NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Even more, she charged at the POTUS several times since. In return, Trump saw her kneeling as a move worthy of criticism.
“Megan should never disrespect our Country, the White House, or our Flag. [Not] especially since so much has been done for her and the team,” Trump said.
“Be proud of the Flag that you wear. The USA is doing GREAT.”
