The former Real Madrid footballer has joined the Portuguese club for the next five years, after being transferred for a 20 million Euro fee.
24-year-old striker Raul de Tomas is a product of the Real Madrid youth system.
He joined Los Blancos in 2004 as a little kid, and in 2012 he debuted with Real Madrid C.
It was in 2014 when he was called to the senior squad, but he didn’t play any Spanish La Liga games, he was loaned to Cordoba, Valladolid, and Rayo Vallecano.
And now, he has been sold for 20 million Euros to Benfica in the Portuguese League.
“I’m very happy to be here. After all, it was a goal I had, to make a leap in my career and this was the best leap I could make,” he told the club’s official website.
“I am in a great club, for me the best in Portugal and I have a lot of desire to start.”
“I want to do my job and score goals, which is the best I can do,” he added.
“Ever since I was a goal scorer and I wish I could score a lot with this jersey and the team can win titles.”
He explained: “Of course it’s going to be a little different at first, but I’m sure I’ll adapt quickly.”
“I did not expect Benfica to be interested in me. It was possible to be in other countries, but I wanted to be here and I’m very happy. I like Portugal.”
“My father travels a lot in Portugal and spoke to me about the club and the country. Of course, it’s a club that meets the ideals I was looking for… I wanted to be here!” de Tomas concluded.
