Bad news for all Real Betis fans, they got eliminated from the Copa del Rey by Valencia in Mestalla with a lonely goal scored by Rodrigo.

The hopes for playing the upcoming Copa del Rey final at their own stadium were pretty high for Real Betis, the Andalusian squad played the second semifinal leg against Valencia this Thursday in Mestalla.

The result from the first leg is what finished their hopes for greater success as they allowed two goals from the visiting squad and were left vulnerable for this match, Quique Setien’s players really needed to score a couple of goals in Mestalla this evening, they did all they could but they weren’t able to get the result they wanted in the end.

Valencia played a nearly perfect defensive match at their own stadium they got the full support from their fans throughout the whole 90 minutes and that was more than enough to wait for a goal that came from Rodrigo during the second half of the game.

The young striker was arguably one of the best players on the pitch alongside Kevin Gameiro, both if these strikers already made things difficult for FC Barcelona in La Liga this season and they will meet the Catalan club once again at the Benito Villamarin Stadium in the Copa del Rey final that will take place in May 24, 2019.

The match was wildly defensive during the first half from the local team, Rela Betis attempted to play in the same way that manager Quique Setien has done it for the time he’s been the Real Betis manager but his tactics didn’t work this time.

When there is a squad that corners itself in their own box without trying to let anyone through while expecting a counterattack, Setien’s players get really frustrated and they end up playing some really boring football as a result of this.

The Real Betis fans were fuming after the match, many of them are already asking for the manager’s head on a plate because they think that he is the one responsible for losing the unique opportunity to play the Copa del Rey final at their own stadium.

Setien is one of those managers who will die defending his ideas, this is exactly what he did in Mestalla today and this might be the ultimate reason why the board of directors might sack him by the end of the week.

But we also have to look at the accomplishments that Quique Setien has done with Real Betis, a club that just a few years ago was in Second Division and has become a competitive side thanks to this man.

The Real Betis crowd may have suffered two consecutive eliminations in two different competitions within a week, but they have to be grateful for recovering their essence.

As far as the match is concerned, Valencia took their chance past the eleventh-minute mark thanks to a deep pass that Kevin Gameiro was able to receive with a certain advantage.

Rodrigo was already waiting for him on the other side of the pitch inside the box, all he needed to do was to push the ball in the back of the net and the goal was his.

After scoring the only goal of the match, the Spanish striker fell injured about ten minutes after putting his squad ahead in the scoreline and he had to leave the pitch.

Real Betis really tried to get that equalizer that gave them more confidence during the final thirty minutes of the match, but the Valencia defense was too much for the Beticos.

We will keep you posted about what happens to Quique Setien after this new elimination, we don’t believe he will last for much longer in the club as the results were what might have sentenced him in the squad.

The only chance that the board will spare Quique, is if the manager decides to make a bigger compromise by next season, all the fans have had enough of these experiments and demand results over playing beautiful football.
