Sadio Mane is flattered to be linked with Real Madrid, but remains “very happy” at Liverpool with his sights firmly set on winning the Champions League final.
Since completing a €41m transfer from Southampton in 2016, Mane has emerged as an integral part of the Liverpool squad.
The Senegalese forward is level with Mohamed Salah as the club’s top-scorer on 26 goals in 49 games across all competitions this season.
Mane’s even had the edge over his more illustrious team-mate in terms of minutes per goal ratio at 159 minutes compared to Salah’s 162.
The duo also shared the 2018/19 Premier League Golden Boot award with Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on 22 goals.
Therefore, Mane’s remarkable progress at Anfield has reportedly captured the interest of La Liga giants Real Madrid.
“This is part of football, so we have to deal with it,” said Mane, according to The Guardian.
“For me, the more important thing is that I am with Liverpool and I am very happy here, and I am preparing for one of the club’s biggest games. Let’s focus on this first, and on winning it.
“It’s always a pleasure for this kind of team to want you, but Liverpool, don’t forget, we beat big teams.”
Despite registering a staggering 97 points in a single 38-game league season, Liverpool missed out on a first title since 1990 by a single point to champions Manchester City.
But the Reds will have another shot at winning silverware this season in Saturday’s Champions League final against Tottenham in Madrid.
Mane added: “I think it’s incredible [to be in another final] and I’m so positive. We know we have targets – we wanted to win the league and the Champions League.
“We didn’t win the league but we still have one trophy to play for so we are going to try to give everything to win it. Everybody’s ready to win.
“We would have loved to win the league but we have to take it as a positive. It will give us more motivation.”
