Alvaro Negredo feels Real Madrid is in need of more attacking options as Karim Benzema has lost some of his punch.
Former Real Madrid player Alvaro Negredo has argued that Karim Benzema‘s style of play leaves him isolated and that he needs more support on the attacking front.
The 31-year old striker started the season on fire as, after Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure, he seemed to have taken the goalscoring responsibility for Real Madrid.
With 13 goals, Benzema was leading the La Liga golden boot race. But his recent inconsistency in finding the back of the net has seen Lionel Messi edge him out.
Since December, the Frenchman has scored just twice in the league. His indecisiveness is also effecting his side who recently gifted away the La Liga lead to Barcelona.
While talking in an exclusive interview with Marca, Alvaro Negredo insists that the lack of firepower is the reason for Real Madrid’s demise.
“He [Zinedine Zidane] has a great defense and one of the best midfields in the world. But I think the attack is costing them the most.
“I like him [Karim Benzema] even when he’s not scoring, and I’d put someone closer to him to take advantage of things. He moves into the winds a lot and he needs someone else to arrive.
“Because of Benzema’s way of playing, they need someone else. He needs another forward by his side.”
