Portu: ‘Real Sociedad wants to fight for a European spot’

Real Sociedad is more than capable of competing for a higher spot in the home league and Europe in general, new club signing assures.

Soon after making his move from Girona to Real Sociedad, Portu has been vocal about where his new club should improve. Not just that, Portu showed a tremendous motivation in deciding to help Real Sociedad get back to its glory days.

The forward will arrive at Real Sociedad for 9 million euros, as per the transfer concluded. Moreover, Portu is determined and ambitious on his and Real Sociedad’s future.

The last time Real Sociedad were as close as to win the home title was back in the 2002/03 season. Unfortunately, the team came in second, just behind that year’s champion, Real Madrid.

Even so, Portu looks up to many of the former club players, like Darko Kovacevic and Nihat.

Despite it being very early into La Liga season, both Barcelona and Real Madrid have had unprecedented starts to their campaigns. With this in...

“As a child, I remember watching [Darko] Kovacevic and Nihat, enjoying watching their matches,” he added of Real Sociedad.

“I think it is a club which will give me lots of joy and I plan to give lots of joy back,” he stated.

“Additionally, something that I like is that the club wants to achieve big things, to fight for a place in Europe, and I think that is the minimum that we should be aiming for,” Portu stated.

“At the end of the day, we must think big in order to achieve big things and I think that this club has been doing that from its beginning,” he added.

So far, there has been nothing but positivity in the club, a fact that makes Portu quite happy.

“I am very happy to be here, to get to see our home, because it is where we players spend the most time, where we must feel most comfortable,” he said.
