Record-breaking Zlatan strikes again for Milan

AC Milan ran out three-nil winners over a Cagliari and Zlatan Ibrahimovic smashed a 60-year-old Serie A record in the process.

It was the final game of the Serie A season, and it may be the final game of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s AC Milan career.

The enigmatic Swede has been in fantastic form of late, and his goals have helped the Rossoneri secure a top-six finish and with it a place in next seasons Europa League.

It is still unclear if Ibrahimovic will be at the San Siro next season. However, if this is his goodbye to the club, he has certainly gone out in style.

The game against Cagliari like so many Serie A games today was rather insignificant in terms of the impact the result had on the league standings.

The hosts were back in Europe and the visitors were staying in the top flight for another season at least.

This match was more about pride and for a certain 38 year and 302 day old forward about the possibility of putting his name next to another record.

Milan ran out three-nil winners adn with it came a priceles piece of history.

Only ten minutes in and an own goal from Klavan gave Milan the lead.

The third goal came from Samu Castillejo in the 57th minute.

However, the goal that the world is talking about and that will take its place in the record books was scored int he 55th minute.

Ibrahimovic broke the record for the oldest player to score ten goals in a Serie A season.

The record was held by Silvio Piola, who was 38 years and 127 days old when he achieved the feat back in the 1950s. 

It is now owned by Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
