Ajax is top of the Eredivisie after beating Heerenveen 4-1.
Ajax was without standout midfielder Donny van Beek again, for the visit of Heerenveen to the Johna Cryuff Arena.
But it made little difference to Erik ten Hag and his men. They ran out resounding winners over their opponents.
In a game dominated from start to finish in just about every department. The Amsterdam team showed why they are the team to beat in Holland.
Dusan Tadic opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a goal assisted by Klaas Jan Huntelaar.
Heerenveen did manage to pull a shock equaliser out of the bag in the 22nd minute through Jens Ogaard. It did, however, come very much against the run of play.
Nicolas Taglifico restored Ajax’s lead before the half was over when Promes served him an assist to regain the advantage.
The second half started, very much where the first left off. Ajax putting the visitors under immense pressure.
The next breakthrough came in the 52nd minute when Tadic turned provider this time and Perr Schuurs out the ball in the back of the net. This gave them a comfortable 3-1 lead.
It was only six minutes later that Taglifico got his brace and Ajax’s fourth to wrap the game up. This time one-time Manchester United target Ziyech was the provider.
The talk is not only if Ajax’s dominance. With almost 70% possession, some 29 shots and eleven corners.
Perhaps the most impressive fact of all is that four goals were scored by three different players, and all goals were assisted by a different member of the team.
So many of the giants of Europe today have a focus on one or two key players. Ajax a group that is contributing week in and week out.
It’s the Champions League up next for Ajax with a visit from LOSC.
Then a top of the table clash with arch-rivals PSV Eindhoven, who remain second in the league by virtue of goal difference.
90+2. Nice homecoming. 💯#ajahee
