Atletico Madrid will reportedly offer Lucas Hernandez a new contract in a bid to ward off interest from Bayern Munich

The France international has been heavily linked with a stunning €80m switch to Bayern for the past month following an explosive report by Spanish newspaper Marca.

While Atletico quickly went about denying the claim, rumours over Lucas’ future continue to persist with the player himself recently refusing to rule out a summer exit.

“There are plenty of clubs in Europe that make me dream, but I will not tell you which ones,” said Lucas last month.

“If I have to leave tomorrow because a project interests me, I’ll think about it.

“I am very happy in Madrid and Spain, where everyone has trusted me for a long time.

“But in football, there are a lot of offers and every time I have to weigh up the pros and cons to make the best decision possible for me, my family and the rest of my career.”

Opinion: Messi gets back to his best with perfect timing

After leading FC Barcelona to a crucial win at Sevilla, Lionel Messi can finally rest easy because he got back to his best form...

But Spanish news outlet AS claim Atletico are determined to hold on to Lucas and are planning to offer the full-back a contract extension after this month’s transfer window closes.

Manager Diego Simeone is convinced Lucas will have a key role to play at Atletico for many years yet and doesn’t want to part with him.

However, the reports adds that the Argentine will not stand in Lucas’ way if he decides to join Bayern, who have agreed not to attempt a move for him this month.

Therefore, the 22-year-old has until February to make up his mind on whether his future lies at the Wanda Metropolitano or not.

Lucas has made 19 appearances for Atletico this season in all competitions and is contracted until June 2024.

The France international has spent his entire playing career at the club and has won both the Europa League and UEFA Super Cup.
