Gareth Bale sets the record straight and speaks out on the criticism he faces.
At his press conference with the Welsh national team, AS reported as Bale talks about his form and fitness, his critics, the last summer, and of course golf.
Gareth Bale, has had a summer and a half.
From his on-off transfer out of Real Madrid to the apparent break down of relationship between the club and player.
Then the dreaded golf pictures and now rediscovering the form that made the most expensive player in the world at one time,
On his current situation he said:
“I suppose so. I am in top form, which perhaps was not in summer.”
“We have had a full week of training and I am looking forward to tomorrow’s game. We need to win tomorrow to return to the path and that is what we hope to do.”
He added about his lack of physical and mental fitness:
“I don’t think the pressure has affected me mentally, but maybe going to games without playing for five or six weeks, yes, I wasn’t where I wanted to be physically.”
He has been criticised a lot but he ignores it, for the most part, he continued:
“I don’t listen to them because they don’t know what they are talking about! I don’t read anything. Most people don’t know the situation.”
This summer was grueling from an emotional and physical standpoint for Bale, but he likes to keep his life private and let his football do the talking, he added:
“It didn’t affect me much, I had a great summer vacation.”
“I kept my head down in the preseason and there was a lot of talk, good and bad, but I kept working hard in training.”
“The things that happened will remain private in the club, but if you want answers, you may have to ask Real Madrid. “
“The summer has not been ideal, but I have passed and I know how to deal with it.”
“It is about keeping my head down and working hard I had a good preseason in terms of training and I started the season well. ”
On football he continues:
I am a professional. I get paid to play football. You go through ups and downs, but working hard in training and doing the right things.”
“When things are not going well if you work hard things will change and you will be rewarded. “
When asked about those infamous golf picture he said:
“Golf is a hobby like anyone else would have a hobby.”
“There’s nothing wrong with playing and people make a mountain out of nothing. It’s just one thing that I enjoy it a lot and it keeps me mentally calmer off the field. “
Bale has gone from Zidane and Real Madrid’s problem to their saviour. He has already bagged two goals and an assist in the opening three games.
It will be interesting to see how Bale partners up or makes way for new boy Eden Hazard.
