According to a report from L’Equipe, FC Barcelona already paid the €120 million for Antoine Griezmann on Thursday. The club denied it.

Looks like Antoine Griezmann’s dream of playing for FC Barcelona will be fulfilled before the end of the weekend, the club allegedly paid the €120 million for him.

In a report from L’Equipe, the Catalan club apparently sent a money transfer directly to Atletico Madrid earlier on Thursday.

The release clause for Antoine Griezmann has been well known since it went down at the start of July, it was only a matter of time before the agreement was reached.

The Colchoneros decided to deny anything related to Antoine’s exit from the club because they consider Barcelona wasn’t fair during last season.

They claim that the player was approached by them when he was still playing for the club, a practice they deem disloyal.

We just reported that the deal would be announced between Friday and Saturday, but L’Equipe’s report suggests that the transfer has been completed under the radar due to these problems between both clubs.

If this turns out to be true, FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid will enter a war that could break their relationship completely.

This transfer could bring more stability to the club and they can finally focus on signing other important players they want for the new season.

This alleged payment means that Griezmann won’t have to present himself in next week’s Atletico Madrid training session.

Barcelona denies such payment was made.

The folks from Diario Sport were quick to point out that FC Barcelona denied of such payment, it took them less than an hour to respond to L’Equipe’s report.

The Colchoneros are just trying to stall as much as possible, given that they are still hurt for the way in which Griezmann dissed them when he announced he was leaving.

This story between Atletico Madrid and players who reject the club is old news, it has been happening forever.

Since the day in which Hugo Sanchez came to the Colchoneros in the ’80s, the club always had some of the best strikers in the world that only used them to jump ship to bigger clubs.

Even though Atletico is already a prominent club in Europe, they seem to have a hard time shaking off that stigma.

In modern times even, there are players such as Sergio Aguero, Radamel Falcao, and now Griezmann who did the same.

The club’s fans are used to this behavior by now, they are not surprised about it and they obviously reject any player who doesn’t want to remain with them throughout their whole careers.

When Griezmann goes back to the Wanda Metropolitano, he can expect a massive jeer from the crowd due to the way he treated the institution.

Antoine Griezmann will sign a contract with a club that is also currently going down, Barcelona has been suffering from bad results over the last four years.

Having Lionel Messi hasn’t been enough for them to be competitive in the Champions League.

Bringing players such as Griezmann to the club is one of the options they are trying to test, they believe that this player can change the club’s future for the better in European competitions.

However, the Catalan club also needs to address the possible signing of a world-class centre-back.

This specific position is one that should alarm the club’s board even more than any other, they have received 7 goals in two crucial Champions League away matches over the last two seasons.

The worst part of it is that the defenders the club has, haven’t been able to properly react to the situation when they need to respond accordingly.

Gerard Pique is not enough to make Barcelona a competitive club, they urgently need a new player who can help them become more solid in the back.

Neither of both Samuel Umtiti or Clement Lenglet is ideal for what the institution needs.

With Griezmann practically closed, Barcelona starts a new chapter in this summer transfer window.
