Barcelona is trying to create space, raise funds, cut the wage bill, call it what you will but why?

According to Spanish sports outlet Marca, Barca is trying to offload Rafinha and find a loan deal to take Riqui Puig off their hands.

With a midfield that contains the likes of Sergio Busquets, Frenkie de Jong, Arthur, Ivan Rakitic, Arturo Vidal and Carles Alena. There is always going to be a battle for playing time.

This is something that 26-year-old Rafinha has struggled for. He has had a couple of loans, at Celta Vigo and Inter. But nothing has really got the Brazilian showing the potential that Barca wants to keep him.

At Inter, in Serie A he managed 17 games and 2 goals.

While at Celta in La Liga2, he managed 33 appearances and 4 goals.

He is deemed surplus to requirements.

Riqui Puig, on the other hand, is only 19, and Barca feels he needs regular first-team football to continue his development. Plus for them to decide does he shows the potential to make it among the very best.

He has only managed 3 appearances for the senior team so far. He was used a great deal more on this year’s preseason.

But manager Ernesto Valverde has such an array of talent he feels loaning the youngster out will help keep everyone happy and help him progress fro the future.

Rafinha has apparently turned down Napoli and is now being linked with a move to Valencia, on a permanent deal. This will bring in some much-needed funds, as well as create space in the wage bill.

Barca will be counting every penny as they try to conjure up the funds to buy back Neymar from PSG.

The Parisians are demanding every penny they paid 2 years ago for the Brazilian. Barca has tried to offer players plus cash. But so far PSG has rejected any combination deal.
