Report: Barcelona considered MLS star Vela

Barcelona was at one time considering a move for Carlos Vela.

The LAFC captain and MLS goal-scoring machine Carlos Vela, tells all in an interview reported by AS. How at one point in the winter transfer window he was on Barcelona’s wanted list.

The 30-year-old Mexican international said:

“It was really close, my second month for holidays, I was there with my piña colada, and my agent called me to say ‘look, Barcelona is calling you.”

“They want you to play for four months then you can go back to LA.”

“You don’t say no to them.”

“I said, just say yes, I don’t care about the money or nothing.”

” I’m going to start training tomorrow, give me two weeks to be a little bit fit.”

“Barcelona, Real Madrid you can’t say no. … If it was my choice, for sure, I’d take it.”

The leading scorer in this season MLS did not go into details as to why the deal never materialised.

This season has seen him score 29 goals in 29 games across all competitions.

While he made a name for himself at Real Sociedad, he had brief spells, at Arsenal, Osasuna and West Bromwich Albion.

But Vela did express that he is happy and content with where he is now and plans on playing out his footballing days in LA.

He added:

“It’s not only the things I want, but football is also a business, and you know how it works.”

“But I want to be here for the rest of my career.”

“I’m really happy here, playing in LA. I want to be here.”
