Chelsea are reportedly closing in on signing Gonzalo Higuain this month after personal terms were agreed on

Manager Maurizio Sarri has decided to pursue Higuain once more after failing to reunite with his former Napoli star last summer.

Tuesday’s 1-0 Carabao Cup semi-final first leg defeat to Tottenham exposed Chelsea’s lack of sharpness up front with a host of chances to equalise going to waste.

Current forwards Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud have both struggled to deliver the goals on a regular basis, which has forced Sarri to deploy Eden Hazard in a “false nine” role.

Now Marca reports that Chelsea are close to sealing a move for Higuain, who has fell below expectations in his loan spell at AC Milan.

The Rossoneri are allegedly keen on cancelling Higuain’s loan deal from Juventus due to his €8m per season salary along with the €40m buy option for next season.

On the other hand, Chelsea would be willing to take on the same deal that the Argentine striker has at Milan.

Should a deal for Higuain go through, then it could pave the way for Morata to leave Stamford Bridge on loan at Sevilla.

Higuain has scored six goals in 15 Serie A appearances for Milan this season.
