Willian has reportedly turned down a lucrative offer from Shanghai Shenhua in China in favour of remaining at Chelsea.
For six years now, Willian has been starring for Chelsea down the wing on route to a total of five trophies including two Premier League titles and a Europa League.
The Brazil international has even made 292 appearances at Stamford Bridge and chipped in 52 goals along with 53 assists.
Willian’s impressive feats over in London have allegedly captured the interest of Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain in the last 12 months. At one point, it seemed a move to either one of the clubs could’ve been on the table given the player’s lack of starts under Antonio Conte in the 2017/18 campaign.
But Chelsea’s decision to sack Conte and replace him with Maurizio Sarri gave Willian hope of a brighter future. However, the Italian has now left for Juventus and the Brazilian will be out of contract next summer.
And talks over an extension at Stamford Bridge haven’t gone down well at all. Apparently, Willian wants a similar two-year deal to what the Blues awarded his compatriot David Luiz.
However, the London club refuse to budge as Willian still has another year on his contract. While Luiz would have been a free agent this summer.
Now UOL Esporte claimed that Shanghai Shenhua made a huge offer to tempt Willian into a China move. As part of the deal, he would’ve received €12m a season for three years along with a rented flat and two chauffeur-driven cars.
Chelsea would have been compensated €20m and Shanghai Shenhua would have given Willian target-related financial bonuses. For example, helping the club win the Chinese Super League (CSL).
At 30, the former Shakhtar Donetsk star will likely have one last big payday left in his career and it would surely have been tempted him.
It turns out, though, Willian rejected this insane offer from the CSL and intends to remain at Chelsea.
Willian is currently with Brazil for the Copa America after replacing the injured Neymar. However, head coach Tite will likely only name him on the bench for tonight’s Group A finale against Peru.
