Crystal Palace have reportedly slapped a £100m (€111m) price tag on star player Wilfried Zaha amid interest from Arsenal.
Following a poor stint at Manchester United four years ago, Zaha wants a second chance at a big club this summer and has informed Palace of his wishes.
The Ivory Coast international enjoyed his most impressive campaign for Palace last term upon finishing with 10 goals and assists in 34 Premier League games. However, the club still finished down in 12th in the standings and 17 points behind sixth-place United in the final Europa League spot.
At 26, though, Zaha is approaching his prime and wants to compete in the Champions League. He made this abundantly clear at the end of last season and hasn’t changed his mind at all.
Arsenal and Champions League runners-up Tottenham are interested. While Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain and Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund could make a play.
But Arsenal appear to be favourites for Zaha this summer despite not being to offer Champions League football next season. Apparently, the former United outcast is keen on a move to the Emirates Stadium.
The Daily Mail claims, though, that Palace want Zaha to honour the final two years of the contract he signed just last year. Therefore, they’ve slapped a price tag of £100m to put Arsenal off pursuing the winger.
The Gunners reportedly only have around £45m to spend this summer after failing to qualify for the Champions League last season. So, chances of them being able to match Palace’s demands seem unlikely at this stage.
Ways for them to increase their budget would be selling players. So far, though, no offers have come in anyone but United allegedly could make a £70m (€78m) offer for striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
