David Moyes is the latest big name to be linked with the managerial vacancy at Southampton

The Saints announced this morning that they had fired manager Mark Hughes following a poor start to the season.

Currently, Southampton sits 18th in the Premier League with just one win in their opening 14 matches.

Now Sky Sports claim Moyes is eyeing a return to managing a top English club after leaving West Ham last season.

The Scotsman has also previously coached Everton, Manchester United and Sunderland in the Premier League.

The 22-year-old has been manager Marco Silva's first choice ahead of Turkey international Cenk Tosun in the English Premier League team.

Aside from Moyes, former Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson is also allegedly interested in taking charge at St Mary’s.

The current coach of Belgian side OH Leuven previously managed Southampton in 2008.

Pearson’s former Leicester assistant, Craig Shakespeare, is also understood to be keen on the Southampton vacancy after being fired by the Foxes last year.

Other candidates for the Southampton vacancy are Ralph Hasenhuttl and Quique Sanchez Flores.
