Euro 2020 qualifying Group H is being controlled by France and Turkey, but Iceland is still in with a shout.

Reigning world champions France ran out comfortable winners against Andorra, 3-0.

While you would be forgiven for having expected a far more dominating result. Given his injury problems, Didier Deschamps and Les Bleus will be glad of the three points.

Turkey, on the other hand, took on Moldova away. The 4-0 result will be exactly what the Turks would have been looking for.

The Turks dominated from the outset. applying a lot of pressure and maintaining high amounts of possession.

It was not, however, until the 37th minute that they broke the deadlock with a goal from Tosun.

The Moldovans heald on at 1-0 down until the end of the first half.

The second half continued much the same way as the first, but on the 57th minute, Turuc managed to double Turkey’s lead.

On the 79th Tosun got his brace, ad Turkey’s third before Yaici wrapped things up in the 88th minute to make it 4-0.

With 18 shots from Turkey compared to Moldova’s mere 4, and 75% possession for the visitors. It was a job well done for the Turks.

The group would have been a three-way tie for first place but for Albania putting a spanner in Icelands works. It was not part of the script for the Albanians to beat Iceland 4-2.

Dermaku gave Albania the lead after 32 minutes, something they would hold onto until the break.

The second half started out a frantic affair. Sigurosson pulled Iceland level after only 2 minutes. But the Albanian lead was restored five minutes later through Hysaj.

Sigborsson pulled Iceland level again after 58 minutes. But the Albanians were resolute and determined, taking a 3-2 lead through Roshi in the 79th and Cikalleshi wrapping things up in the 82nd to make it 4-2.

France and Turkey both have 15 points, while Iceland is within touching distance on 12. Albania is not out of the running for third on nine points. While Moldova and Andorra wrap up the groups with three and zero points respectively.

It’s hard to see France slipping up again, and while Turkey is strong, Iceland cannot be ruled out.

The top two go-to Euro 2020 automatically, while there are four playoff spots available too.

With such a high points tally in Group H, the third-place team will feel confident of snatching one of those spots too.
