Federico Fazio has committed his future to AS Roma.
According to Football Italia, the Argentine centre-back has committed to the club until 2021.
Roma has also confirmed the deal through their social media accounts.
Fazio joined Roma on loan from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2016.
His loan spell was deemed a success, and Roma went ahead and purchased the player in a deal worth a little over 3 million Euros.
Since then, he has gone on to establish himself as a key player for the Rome team.
During his time at the Giallorossi, has made 135 appearances scored 11 goals and had 3 assists.
While his time at Tottenham what by no means a failure, he did not reach the level that prompted Spurs to sign him for 10 million Euros from Sevilla.
In Spain, he played 203 games for Sevilla, scored 14 goals and had 4 assists.
A resurgence in his form like that at Sevilla has prompted Roma to tie him down again.
The player said of the new deal:
“It’s my second renewal with the club and I am incredibly pleased,”
“From the very first day here I have felt that the club has confidence in me, something that is important to every player.”
“I’ve sensed that belief from everyone who works at Trigoria – a place I want to stay at for the long-term.”
Roma sporting director was also on hand to give a very happy take on securing the player’s services until 2021.
“Federico is a key player within our squad, and because of that we are delighted to be able to extend his contract.”
“We will be relying on his ability and his experience, qualities which will also be hugely important in the growth and development of our younger players.”
“Federico will be a mentor for our defense and for our lads.”
Roma has not only focused on new acquisitions this summer, but also tying down existing players.
This is their fourth contract renewal this summer.
Nicolo Zaniolo, Edin Dzeko and Cengiz Under have also renewed at AS Roma.
