Usually when a player meets with the club president, the sporting director, and his agent is present. Something is in the mix.
That was the situation at Sporting Lisbon’s training ground today.
There were one of two things taking place.
Either there was a massive U-turn and Fernandes has been offered a new contract. With an extortionate buyout clause and the promsie, he can go next year.
Or he has been informed of the deals on the table that the club has accepted and he has a choice to make.
According to the Mirror, Bruno Fernandes and Miguel Pinho met with club president Federico Varandas and sporting director Hugo Viana.
The word is it was discussions to conclude the negotiations of his transfer away from Lisbon.
The interested parties are rumoured to be Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspurs.
It is thought though, the only concrete offer comes from the London club and they are in the driving seat.
Sources in Portugal seem to think that the initial offer from Spurs was rejected.
The club has told their captain and 23 goal midfielder that the club is demanding 70 million and the offer was 60 million.
The Sporting manager Marcel Keizer said when questioned about the player.
“I cannot guarantee anything.”
This was in reference to him playing in the Portuguese Super Cup on Sunday against Benfica.
“You can never say with 100% in football”
“It is not me who decides.” In reference to the transfer.
“The window is open, and that is never good.”
The manager is apparently not convinced he will be as his disposal much longer.
Who will win the race him remains to be seen.
