Euro 2020 qualifying Group H leaders France and Turkey played out a 1-1 draw in the Paris.
After Turkey managed to inflict a 2-0 victory over the World Champions in Turkey, they sit top of Group H by means of the head to head results.
Tonight should have seen Didier Deschamps side get revenge on Turkey and take control of the group and secure their place in the next summers tournament.
But all they could do was manage a 1-1 draw.
The French are a side ravaged by injuries.
Kylian Mbappe, Paul Pogba, Hugo Lloris, and Aymeric Laporte all out.
There was N’golo Kante on the bench after struggling for fitness too.
France dominated possession, with 66 percent and had plenty sight of goal with 23 shots, of which nine were on target.
However, it was not until the 76th minute that the Chelsea bench warmer found the back of the net.
Giroud was introduced in the 72nd minute as a replacement for Wissam Ben Yedder.
It only took him four minutes to break the deadlock.
A corner from Barcelona’s Antoine Griezmann, was headed home by Giroud, to make it 1-0 to the home side.
76 minutes gone, France 1 – 0 Turkey.
Surely after all the domination, the French could hold on for 14 more minutes to take the win and their place in Euro 2020.
Unfortunately not. It took the Turks only five minutes to find a response.
The visitors had only five shots all night, and only one on target.
How ironic, that that solitary effort was the one that found the back of the net.
Kaan Ayhan got on the end of a free-kick from the right to get the deftest of touches, to put the ball past Steve Mandanda in the France goal.
With Iceland winning against Andorra, nobody in Group H has qualified for Euro 2020 as yet.
It will take Novembers round of games to decide who goes to the big show next summer.
