AC Milan is in the market for more attacking options, but have a limited amount of money.
Madrid is demanding a fee of 50 million Euros, Milan has offered 40 million. It is possible that Milan will go back with 40 million-plus add-ons. It remains to be seen if this will tempt Diego Simeone to part with the striker.
The bottom line is, 40 million in cash, is all Milan has to offer.
It was hoped that they may have been able to offload some other players, but there have been no takers for their deadwood.
Things have not quite gone to plan. They have already spent over 100 million Euros, but have only seen a little over 30 million come back in from departures.
Milan’s Technical Director Paolo Maldini is thought to be planning a trip to Madrid in the coming days.
His first port of call will be Atletico in an attempt to push through a deal for their first choice forward acquisition Angel Correa. A 24-year-old who scored 5 goals in 49 games last season.
If there is no progress in those negotiations, he will move on to Real.
They are also looking to generate funds, to help with the purchase of Neymar as well as possible Christian Eriksen or even a last-ditch attempt for Paul Pogba.
It is understood, that Los Blancos will listen to offers for Mariano Diaz.
The 26-year-old Dominican Republic centre-forward, returned to Madrid from Lyon last year, for 21.5 million Euros.
However, he only managed 22 appearances and four goals in return.
Granted many of his appearances have either started or ended up on the bench. While he has also suffered from muscular injuries.
The line ahead of him at Real is not getting any smaller. The arrival of Neymar would only see him fall further behind an opportunity of a regular starting place in the team.
While Correa is a little younger than Diaz, their strike rate last season were similar.
Milan will be getting a player offering a similar return either way. It all depends on which club has a player that fits Milan’s budget.
