Jose Mourinho is receiving a lot of criticism for his decision-making while he was managing Manchester United.
The Portuguese manager works as a pundit nowadays. There have been rumors of him taking over at Lyon.
However, Aulas, Lyon’s director, said that Jose is on the verge of signing for a big club in European football.
Mourinho’s critics came up talking about his failed stint at United. One of the biggest stains in his tenure at United were the incoming transfers.
And nobody highlights the issue more than Fred, who was bought from Shaktar for a reported fee of €60 million.
However, a recent turn of events saw The Athletic get the inside scoop on the Fred deal. It turns out, according to their report, that Jose never wanted Fred in the first place.
Despite all of that, he had to approve the transfer, mostly out of fear that United won’t bring in anyone else.
This rumor is highlighted by the fact that Manchester City wanted Fred in the same transfer window.
From that standpoint of view, it’s easy to see why Woodward wanted to get Fred, as to show his teeth on the transfer market.
However, the inclusion of the Brazilian failed miserably, as he’s spending much more time on the bench and in the stands than on the pitch.
However, Solskjaer still believes in Fred. According to Daily Mail, Solskjaer spoke of the Brazilian:
“Well, I think you’re not surprised when a player who has played in Ukraine finds it a little bit hard in the beginning.
“But we know the talent is there. We’ve seen, towards the end of [last] season, what Fred can give us: the PSG game, the Arsenal and Man City games.
“And, of course, he’s one that we hope is going to take another step this season.
“Hopefully, missing 10 days of our pre-season [to get married] won’t set him back too much.”
