It took a late goal from Neymar to get Paris Saint Germain the win 0-1 over Lyon.

After stoppage-time heroics in the win of Starabourg last weekend in Ligue 1, it was Neymar to the rescue again.

Granted this time it was against tougher opposition, but none the less it was a desperate state of affairs for the defending French Champions.

It was an 87th-minute goal from the Brazilian superstar, who started for PSG in today’s late game at the Groupama Stadium, Lyon, France.

PSG dominated and pressed hard in the open stages of the game.

A 12th-minute effort from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting forced Lyon keeper Lopes into action.

Lopes also made a save from a Neymar shot from about 12 yards out. As well as tipping a 25-yard free-kick from the Brazilian over the bar too.

Lyon had an attempt of their own before the half time break.

Memphis Depay on the counter-attack, however, could only manage to drag his effort wide of Nava’s post.

Half time: Lyon 0- 0 PSG.

The second half opened with another effort from the home side. Depay was the provider this time. But Houssem Aouar put his effort over the bar.

PSG had the opportunity to open the scoring themselves with Neymar putting in a delightful corner, only for Abdou Diallo also headed over the bar.

Then in the 87th minute, Argentine Angel Di Maria played an inch-perfect pass Neymar.

The Brazilian turned his marker Lyon’s Kenny Tete and fired a driven shot along the ground into Lopes’s bottom left-hand corner of the goal.

0-1 PSG led and there was no way back with only minutes to go for Lyon.

Final score: Lyon 0 – 1 PSG.

The game was unfortunately marred by a small contingent of the home fans throwing objects at PSG hero Neymar.

But the Brazilian will not care. He is stuck in Paris for the foreseeable future, and his heroics will be going a long way to mending broken bridges with his own fans.

The result leaves PSG top of Ligue 1 three points clear of their nearest rivals Angers and Nice. While Lyon is languishing down the table in 9th.
