Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly weighing up an offer to join Inter Milan in the race for Romelu Lukaku.
Lukaku has emerged as a potential recruit for PSG because of Edinson Cavani’s expected summer departure.
The Uruguayan striker has scored a record 193 goals in 279 games during his six years at PSG. 17 trophies have come his way in the French capital, with five of them being Ligue 1 titles.
But Spanish radio channel Cadena Sur claimed on Friday that Cavani has agreed to join La Liga side Atletico Madrid. It’s understood, though, that PSG have demanded €50m for the 32-year-old, who will be out of contract next season.
Therefore, any potential deal for Cavani’s sale will take some time while Atletico and PSG work out a suitable fee.
But the Express has claimed that the French champions are already lining up replacements for Cavani. At the top of the list is allegedly Lille OSC star Nicolas Pepe, with Lukaku next.
The 23-year-old winger had a breakthrough campaign in France, where he finished as Ligue 1’s second-highest scorer on 22 goals in 37 appearances.
However, PSG are set to face competition from Barcelona, Arsenal and Liverpool for Pepe’s services. So, Lukaku is an alternative if they do not sign their top target this summer.
On the back of a disappointing season that saw him struggle to gain favour under United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Lukaku is being tipped for an exit from Old Trafford.
New Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte is reportedly keen to wrap up a deal for Lukaku. Apparently, the Belgian striker will have a big role to play at the San Siro next term.
United are allegedly holding out for £80m for Lukaku, who has expressed an interest in moving to the Serie A someday.
Furthermore, Conte refused to rule out a move for either Lukaku or his Red Devils team-mate Alexis Sanchez when he became Inter boss.
