Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are reportedly thinking about making an approach to Manchester City for Leroy Sane to replace Neymar.
Despite their strong desire to retain him, PSG look set to lose Neymar in the current transfer window to Barcelona. Although recent reports have suggested Real Madrid haven’t given up hope yet on taking the Brazilian to the Spanish capital instead.
The one thing that’s certain, though, is Neymar’s desire to leave Paris after not showing up for pre-season training this week.
The 27-year-old has been unhappy with life in France from the moment he arrived in 2017. Therefore, his representatives are working hard on sealing a return to La Liga this summer.
So, PSG must draw up a shortlist of potential replacements for Neymar. While it won’t be an easy task, money will be no issue considering the likely €222m transfer fee they will receive for their star player.
And it appears the Ligue 1 champions have already named a worthy successor in Leroy Sane based on a report from Sport.
The Catalan-based paper state that PSG want an established star to line-up alongside Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani in their three-man attacking formation.
Apparently, the Parisians are long-term admirers for Sane and tried to sign him in 2016 before he joined Manchester City instead.
But the 23-year-old winger’s time at the Etihad Stadium may end this summer after a lack of regular starting opportunities last season. Citizens boss Pep Guardiola instead favoured Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva down the flanks.
Bayern Munich have since confirmed their interest in signing Sane as a replacement for departed wingers Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben.
But Sport suggests PSG’s greater financial resources will give them the edge over Bayern for Sane as City won’t allow him to leave on the cheap.
