Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly determined to retain Neymar this summer despite his strong desire to make a return to Barcelona.
Neymar has become disillusioned with life at PSG and regrets leaving Barcelona in 2017 in the first place.
Despite winning back-to-back Ligue 1 titles, the Brazilian is frustrated over PSG’s failure to challenge for the Champions League. It’s caused his enthusiasm for the project to wane, which has only gotten worse following the recent departure of sporting director Antero Henrique.
Therefore, Neymar is anxious to complete a Camp Nou comeback this summer. He’s allegedly informed PSG owner Nasser Al-Khelaïf he has no desire to play for the club again.
While confirming Neymar’s interest in a return, however, vice-president Jordi Cardoner denied that the club had set a plan in motion to re-sign him.
“What is correct, at the current time, what I have read, what I have heard, which seems exact, is that Neymar wants to come back to Barcelona,” said Cardoner last Thursday.
“To say that Barca is working on recruiting Neymar, that is something I cannot agree with.
“For the moment all that is happening — and not only with Neymar — is that a number of players would like to play for a great club like Barcelona. We will see what happens in a timely fashion.”
But Telefoot claimed that PSG are not keen on allowing Neymar to walk out, which could effectively end the player’s Barcelona hopes. Apparently, Al-Khelaïf and the club board aren’t willing to play ball after paying a staggering €222m for him just two years ago.
With Real Madrid target Kylian Mbappe refusing a new contract, the French club will likely be more determined to fight for Neymar.
Although the Brazil international’s hopes of signing for Barcelona haven’t been dashed yet. Apparently, Lionel Messi is pushing hard to convince the Blaugrana to go ahead and sign his old team-mate.
While currently injured, Neymar is in Brazil cheering on the national team in the Copa America. He’s also working hard in the gym to recover from his ankle setback.
