Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly plotting to launch a €109m bid for Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha to replace wantaway PSG star Neymar.
It’s been a rather hellish summer for PSG since Neymar made it clear he wants to end his two-year stay in France. While obviously reluctant to part ways, they’re preparing for the worst in pursing Zaha.
Top clubs have been sniffing around for the Ivory Coast international all summer following another standout campaign at Palace. He finished with an impressive haul of 10 goals and assists in 34 Premier League games, and now wants out.
The 26-year-old is entering his peak years and wants to enjoy them playing European football. It had promoted interest from Premier League giants Arsenal for a summer move.
The Gunners, however, couldn’t match Palace’s demands and instead opted to sign Nicolas Pepe for a club-record €80m. Everton, on the other hand, also seemed like a potential destination for Zaha until the move fell through.
But the Daily Mirror claims that the former Manchester United winger could still leave Selhurst Park. Apparently, PSG have lined-up a £100m (€109m) bid and plan to send officials to London this week to start talks with Palace.
While aware that Neymar isn’t an easy man to replace, the Parisians believe Zaha’s style will excite fans at the Parc Des Princes.
With just over a week of the European transfer window left, though, PSG will have to act quickly. Their progress in London this week will likely hinge on the outcome of Neymar’s future, as the battle between Barcelona and Real Madrid heats up.
The La Liga giants have both lodged mega offers to entice PSG into a sale. However, Thomas Tuchel’s side are playing hardball and won’t consider anything less than the €222m in cash they used to sign Neymar in 2017.
Currently, Barcelona plan to launch their final offer for Neymar this weekend.
