Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola has reportedly arrived at Real Madrid to complete a trade deal involving Keylor Navas.

Almost out of nowhere, Real have allegedly set their sights on a last-minute swoop for goalkeeper Areola with Navas heading to PSG.

Parisians boss Thomas Tuchel fueled the speculation by confirming that his number one could leave before Monday’s deadline. Although he didn’t reveal whether a Santiago Bernabeu move for Areola is on the table.

Regardless, the France international requested to miss PSG’s 2-0 Ligue 1 win over Metz on Friday night. He instead occupied a spot on the bench, while 19-year-old Marcin Bulka started in goal.

Real manager Zinedine Zidane then dropped a huge bombshell on Saturday afternoon, where he hinted “a big signing [or] two big signings” could arrive in Madrid before Monday’s transfer deadline.

While the 47-year-old didn’t name-drop anybody, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer quickly ruled out Paul Pogba being one of those players.

But it appears Zidane wasn’t bluffing anyway, with AS claiming that Areola successfully passed a medical at Real’s Valdebebas training centre.

The Spanish paper also stated that the trade deal involving Areola and Navas should be completed on Monday.

Should the rumours be true, it will bring a low-key ending to what has been a remarkable five-year Los Blancos career for Navas.

The Costa Rica international, who joined for just €10m from Levante, has made 162 appearances in all competitions for the club and played a big part in their historic run of three Champions League titles in a row.

However, Navas is keen to get back to playing regular football after falling behind Thibaut Courtois in the pecking order.

There’s been talk in the Spanish press claiming that the Real board have forced Zidane to drop his favoured keeper for Courtois.

Los Merengues, meanwhile, will be in action at Villarreal tonight, with kick-off set for 21:00 (CET).
