Report: Real sack manager Petke following suspension

Mike Petke has now been sacked following his initial suspension for his attack on match day officials.

According to ESPN, Real Salt Lake have now made the suspension of manager Mike Petke, a sacking.

Mike Petke was serving a three-game touchline ban for making abusive comments to match officials.

Petke was sent off following Real’s defeat to Tigres last month as he confronted the officials.

He was suspended for three MLS matches, three Leagues Cup matches and fined $25,000.

An MLS statement described his behaviour as follows:

“unacceptable and offensive language”

“repeated confrontational misconduct towards match officials”.

The ruling also stated that Petke had to attend anger management, sensitivity and diversity training.

The club itself punished him with a two-week suspension without pay.

However, the club went a step further less than 24 hours before he was due to return to work.

In a statement they said:

“After further deliberations and a series of constructive discussions internally and with various members of our community.”

“We have concluded, pursuant to his employment agreement, to immediately terminate Mike Petke’s employment.”

“At Real Salt Lake, we have the privilege to represent our great community and fans here locally and on a national and global basis.”

“We hold all of our coaches, players, executives, and staff to the highest standards of professionalism.”

“As an organisation, it is vital that everyone, particularly our leadership, reflects and embodies our core values and the values of our community, treating all people with respect, civility, and professionalism.”

“Moreover, throughout our 15-year history, we have championed diversity, acceptance, and inclusion throughout our organisation, our stadiums and our community.”

“This is a responsibility that we take very seriously.”

Freddy Juarez the assistant manager has been given the job of the manager on a caretaker basis, until the end of the season.on an interim basis until the end of the season, who had collected seven points from three games in the coach’s absence.
