Real Sociedad have made a reported bid of £10.5m for Newcastle United midfielder Mikel Merino, claims The Sun
The Spanish midfielder was initially signed by Rafael Benitez on a season-long loan deal in July 2017 from Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, which was later made a permanent deal after Merino had reached the required number games played in October that Newcastle needed in order to seal the transfer on a five-year contract.
But, despite having made 24 Premier League appearances last season, the 21-year-old only started three of Newcastle’s final 10 league fixtures and has now been linked with another move this summer.
In light of this, Sociedad have emerged as a possible destination for Merino this summer and the former Spain Under-21s midfielder may be tempted by a move back to his homeland after leaving in 2016.
Newcastle are believed to be contemplating the offer and may be tempted themselves into sanctioning the transfer in order to raise funds so that they can strengthen their squad in other areas ahead of next season.
