Rodrigo Moreno said his goodbyes and left Valencia, only for his transfer to Atletico Madrid to never go through.
As we brought you here at Ronaldo.com back in mid-August, the deal was apparently agreed. Rodrigo was leaving Valencia and heading to Atletico.
The player was convinced that all that was left were formalities. He bid his soon to be former teammates an emotional goodbye.
Role forward just a few days, and Valencia general director Mateu Alemany said there was no deal. The reason was due to the interested parties to all intense and purpose not actually having the money they bid for the player.
This deal has been on and off for around the last three weeks of the transfer window.
According to Spanish outlet Marca, the saga has been somewhat of an ordeal for the player.
The transfer has left the player now having to return to Valencia and ply his trade once more at the Mestalla.
Valencia is a club in turmoil right now, due to struggles and differences between those in power and those making day to day decisions.
Owner Peter Lim has fallen out and made up on a daily basis with all his immediate lieutenants, from directors of football to the club manager.
Diego Simeone’s Atletico has spent heavily this summer, but it appears a lot of their deals have seen them negotiate favorable payment terms.
Valencia has also invested somewhat but needed cash from the Rodrigo sale in order to make further acquisitions.
It appears that Atletico made an offer that Valencia accepted, but when it came to the terms of the agreement and method of payment. There was no deal to be done.
While Atletico looks strong from their early games they will apparently no miss the signing.
Valencia has hung on to a prize asset that will only help them this season.
The player may move in another window, but for now, he is going back to Valencia.
