Manchester United’s Chris Smalling who is on loan at Serie A side Roma is set for his debut tomorrow.
Roma manager Paulo Fonseca has confirmed that Chris Smalling will make his Roma debut, in tomorrows midweek clash with Atalanta.
The team from Rome, are flying high on the back of three wins in succession across all competitions.
They are currently sitting fourth in Serie A.
Manager Paulo Fonseca addressed the press today, and according to the clubs official website asroma.com, he wants his players to not get carried away and remain focused.
He said:
“As I always tell the squad, we need to keep a level head.”
“We need to stay focused; we haven’t done anything yet.”
“We’ve only won three games. There’s still a lot to learn and improve and we need to keep our feet on the ground.”
While he would like to rest key players, he doesn’t feel the players he has at his disposal afford him that luxury.
He added:
“Kolarov and Dzeko are really important players for us. I’d like to give them a rest but it’s not possible right now.”
“But they’re great professionals and as athletes, they take great care over their fitness.”
“Cristante is a smart player, he understands what I want in that role and produces it.”
“He’s also a brave player who is prepared to take some risks. He’s strong defensively, good on the ball and tactically aware.”
Fonseca is happy with his team’s effort and collective hard work
He continued:
“This is a very united group, all pushing in the same direction.”
“There was no need for me to stress the importance of that.”
“That’s always key if you want to compete for something. That unity came naturally.”
“I’m very realistic. The team is improving, but we have a different game tomorrow.”
“It’s great that people believe in us but we need to be focusing solely on the next game.”
On the much-anticipated debut of the United player on loan to him, he concluded:
“He’ll play tomorrow.”
