Sheffield United have stunned Arsenal in the Monday night Premier League game, with a 1-0 victory.

The win moves Premier League new boys Sheffield United to the dizzying heights of ninth in the league.

The defeat leaves Arsenal stranded in fifth now two points off of fourth.

It was a Lys Mousset goal on the stroke of the half-hour that separated the two sides.

United’s defender Jack O’Connell got the assist, as Frenchman Mousset finally opened his account.

It was his first goal since his arrival at Bramall Lane this summer.

Arsenal dominated possession and had a some chances of their own. But they simply could not defeat a resilient team.

Big money signing Nicolas Pepe put a glorious chance from six yards out wide of the goal.

While keeper Dean Henderson on loan from Manchester United puled offa fabulous save from Arsenal captain Granit Xhaka.

The result is huge for the Blades and was a demonstration of their determination to succeed and stay in the top flight.

This is a team that was one of the bookie’s favourites to right back down this after their promotion.

They are securing the kind of points that can make the difference come May 2020.

They have already got a draw against Chelsea and were only undone against Liverpool after a calamitous error by Henderson.

Manager Chris Wilder put out a front line of McGoldrick and Mousset, who had the skill and the speed between them to pressure the Arsenal backline.

He also put together a back three of O’Connell, Basham, and Egan who fought tooth and nail to be a solid barrier against Arsenal big-money forwards.

The BBC’s Chris Sutton was full of praise after the game.

He said:

“I have so much respect for Sheffield United’s back three.”

“They have come up through the leagues together, they are well oiled and well drilled.”

“It is the best defence in the Premier League this season, along with Liverpool.”

Unai Emery was only recently saying how close he though his team was too great things, apparently Sheffield United are pretty close too.
