UEFA Champions League group H will give the seasons slow starters a chance to stay in the game.

UEFA.com, confirmed that the final group of the Champions League, group G will contain, Chelsea, Ajax, Valencia, and Lille

Its is not since the days of Louis van Gaal has Ajax lifted the Champions League trophy. Erik ten Hag will be hoping to do better than last year.

Ajax will be favorites to top this group. They will need to improve on their recent form. As they struggled passed Cypriot champions Apoel in the qualifying rounds.

Chelsea last accomplished winning the Champions League back in 2012, Lampard knows the feeling and would love to do it now as their manager.

They are still finding their feet and very slowly under Frank Lampard. Losing Eden Hazard and dealing with a transfer embargo was not the best preparation for returning to the big show.

Lampard has encountered and got the best of all three teams at some stage or another in his playing career. He will be hoping to duplicate that kind of result as a manager though this time.

Valencia are just a mess right now to put it quite simply. They have all kinds of inner turmoil. From the owner and board to the manager and players right through to the discontented fans.

If they could get there ducks in a row, they stand half a chance of progressing. Their opponents are by no means at their best right now either.

Lille may be the surprise package of this group. They have cashed in on star player and main goal scorer Nicolas Pepe. But they have not rested on their laurels  and brought in replacements.

This group much like group F will see at least one unlikely team progress.

Lille defender Jose Fonte said of the draw:

“I think it is a great group.”

“It is a very tough group, these are three good teams. It is open. We can match Chelsea, Ajax, and Valencia. I am happy to meet these teams.”

Ajax has lost some great players over the summer, but surely the academy production line has another gem or two up their sleeve. If they can improve, they should progress.

That will leave the other three to fight it out for the second place.

This group does mean that another top side will be entering the Europa League, and that not something the teams in that competition will be relishing.
