Samuel Umtiti may be in reserve as the new United centre-back if Maguire deal doesn’t happen soon.

It is reported by the Daily Mail that Manchester United are readying a 46 million pound bid for the Barcelona defender.

It is believed that United have already spoken to the Catalonian club. There appears to be a difference in valuation. But it is thought an agreement could be reached.

Manchester United value the Frenchman at 46 million but Barcelona are thinking of a number closer to 55 million.

It has been widely speculated that United are in the market for a centre-back. Especially following the longterm injury to Eric Bailly.

The deal for Maguire has been on-off all summer. With offers rejected and the price appears on the rise. United won’t be held to ransom.

It is reported that United had a 70 million and then a 75 million pound offer turned down by Leicester City for their England international. They value him at 80 million pounds and are not prepared to negotiate.

The French World Cup winner is thought to be a viable alternative for United.

Given he is only 25 and has a wealth of experience at the highest level. Plus he would cost considerably less than Maguire.

The move may well appeal to the player. He has struggled for playing time given he was out through injury. Plus the fact he is vying for a place with the ever-present Gerrard Pique.

The deal also appeals to Barcelona as they are would turn a tidy profit on the defender. They paid Lyon only 22 million pounds in 2016.

Remember Barca have spent big already this summer. Ernesto Valverde wants his revolution at the Camp Nou is to continue. So, they need to sell too!
