Victor Lindelof is being offered a new and improved contract by Manchester United.

After a tough start to his United career, Victor Lindelof has found his feet and grown into the defender they always wanted.

Further to speculation over the summer that Barcelona was sniffing around the Swedish international. Plus is an impressive improvement in form.

According to The Manchester Evening News, United are rewarding the centre-back with the offer an improved new contract at the club.

Lindelof struggled in his first season, but even though the defense as a whole struggled, he improved a great deal.

Put that together with what appeared to be a match made in heaven after his first game with new central defensive partner Harry Maguire.

It was time for United to step up.

Lindelof’s current deal still has two years to run and earns him 75,000 pounds a week.

Harry Maguire at 26 years of age has just signed a 190,000 pound a week six-year deal.

Manchester United would like to see the two create a partnership at the heart of their defense. Then see it grow in the ilk of Pallister and Bruce, or better still Ferdinand and Vidic.

United feel that rewarding the 25-year-old Swede with a new deal that would keep him at the club for five more years rather than two.

Plus bring him in line with the clubs next bracket of earners, doubling his salary 150,000 pounds per week.

This kind of agreement would bring long term stability to the United team. Something that new manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer described as one of his objectives as manager.

Plus such a deal would go along way to ward off the unwanted interest and temptation of Barcelona.
