Manchester United academy prospect Angel Gomes is eager to demonstrate is capabilities to manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
After some recent opportunities to play for the Manchester United first team, Angel Gomes is keen to build on that momentum and make his place a permanent one.
In an interview with Manchester United in house tv channel, MUTV, he spoke of his progress and fuling his dreams.
“It’s something I have worked for my whole life.”
“I want to impose myself and impose what I can do, and not just show the fans but show the club what I am here for really.”
He is excited about being considered a first-team player.
“It’s what we’re trying to achieve. We’re there now in the first team and it’s how you’ve got to think.”
“It’s exciting times. Obviously, I grew up here, all my life, and just being here is amazing for me really.”
“Being in the first team is something I’ve worked for and I’m slowly realising it.”
Having grown up at United, he knows the history and the success, that has been missing recently. He aspires to put that wrong right.
“Growing up at United, winning trophies is all the club knows really.”
“We’ll try to emulate that and get as far down the line as possible in the competition.”
“We’ve got to set standards and have the winning mentality. The higher standards we set, the harder we can work towards trying to achieve them.”
While the change from the academy to first-team is daunting, and his performances have been solid, he admits he is always trying to improve. Confidence is key.
“I thought I did okay [against Astana]. I tried to get into pockets and tried to go forward, when I could, to create chances.”
“A personal aim is to create a few more chances and get a goal for myself or make a decisive pass that leads to a goal.”
“It [showing skill on the ball] comes with confidence, and having more game time and, obviously, more opportunities to show yourself, so it’s something you can expect from the coming games.”
Such is Gomes’ prodigious talent, Barcelona has been keeping tabs on his contract situation at United.
Gomes is expected to start in toights Carabao Cup game against Rochdale, and it will be an opportunity to showcase his development.
An attacking formation that includes Greenwood, Chong, and Gomes is something the Old Trafford faithful have been begging for, and tonight it might just happen.
